Therapist's Self-care
As mental health professionals, emotional support and professional guidance are fundamental for managing the complexities of our work.
It is important not only to talk about self-care but also about collective care, which can come from colleagues, supervisors, and people in our network (family, friends, partners, etc.).
One such space is clinical supervision, which is essential as it provides a space to reflect on clinical work, receive constructive feedback, and address any difficulties that may arise.
However, we cannot rely solely on supervision. We need spaces for venting, emotional decompression, reflection on the person of the therapist, and containment. A space where we do not feel judged, but rather heard and seen in our feelings.
It is important to consider how we and the spaces in which we participate can facilitate (or hinder) the establishment of healthy boundaries in our practice and to enhance the pursuit of leisure and recreational activities in our daily lives.
At ILPS, we will offer various spaces to promote care and self-care.
On the one hand, there will be training and experiential workshops focused on the therapist as an individual. Activities will be conducted to enhance the therapeutic alliance, to understand why certain themes resonate more with us than others, and to find meaning in our work.
On the other hand, there will be spaces for relaxation and containment called “Therapeutic Venting,” where we can reflect and share experiences related to our practice. For example, the difficulty in working with certain themes, issues with billing, relationships with other professionals, etc.
If you have any questions or wish to propose a workshop, you can write to us at contacto@ilps.cl
